Musings, inspirations, ideas...
"My ideas usually come not at the desk writing but in the midst of living." -Anais Nin
Hello ...to the inspiring you!  Sit down, let's have tea.  As an artist and human being I am constantly excited and motivated by the many writers, artists, and interesting souls that are to be found in the world.  They show up when you least expect it, and when you most need them.   Usually when you are in the midst of a particularly painful and defeating day.  Just when all your faith is about to leave your body, you open a book to a certain page that tells you that which you most need to hear.  Jung gave it the name SYNCHRONICITY.  I found this one day while browsing in a bookstore, I was feeling very unoriginal  and discouraged about my work when I opened the page to this,

"Everybody is ORIGINAL.  If they tell the truth and speak
from their true self, not the self they think they should be.  So remember these two things: you are TALENTED and you are ORIGINAL.  Be sure of that."

I keep a journal of writings, quotes, and questions.  It is the ongoing project that is my life.  For a long time I felt I wasn't disciplined enough to write all the time.  But now I don't pressure myself and just write when I feel like it.  It is the most fulfilling thing to see notebooks filling up with words and images.
Here are some recent favorite books to inspire,  Wisdom of the Heart -Henry Miller,   Drinking the Rain --Alix Kates Shulman, Learning by Heart --Corita Kent, Succulent Wild Woman --Sark.

        Henry Miller says,
"the important thing I learned from making watercolours, was not to worry, not to care too much.  We don't have to turn out a masterpiece everyday.  To paint is the thing, not to make masterpieces."

How beautiful is that?  It helps to take away the pressure when we start a creative act.  Something I try to do every day when working.  I find the hardest thing is to start, if I can get past that I can experience a state of joy.
