I’m officially a professor!

link to Emily Carr University

I walked around my new campus the other day and was in awe of the buildings. The place was designed to fit in with an industrial waterfront landscape and so was made with all of my favorite architectural elements, large timber beams, corrugated metal, and concrete. I felt right at home being back in art school, and felt instantly that the space easily lends itself to creative thinking, conjuring, formulating and discussing ideas. I am flattered that my class filled up fast and now has a waiting list! I hope I will live up to the hype.

I wrote to a friend yesterday that I feel a bit like a kid in a candy store, there are so many things I want to teach, and talk about. I keep reminding myself to “keep it simple”. It’s just that I loved art school so much and I’m excited to share that with the students. For me it is like going to an amusement park every week, except with a lot of hard work you get to make it exactly as you want it.

I think I would have liked art school a lot more if I’d had a teacher as enthusiastic as you. Mind you, reading your blog and your books makes me feel like you’re a teacher of mine (of sorts)… so it all turned out okay in the end.

I just found your website, someone recommended it.
I am looking forward to more of it.

Congrats on the professorship!!! Celebrate and keep celebrating. I celebrate my birthday for a week…so not sure how long I would celebrate becoming a professor…maybe all year!!

I live in Surrey, just outside Vancouver so if you are speaking in Vanc. I would love to come hear you and meet you.

Wishes of wellness, joy and laughter

The campus looks beautifully clean, tidy and well organised. Presumeably in your inaugural professorial address, you’ll be encouraging your students to mess it up a bit (maybe Wreck This Campus would be a step too far).

You’ll love going to work on Granville Island, the public market there is amazing, and Emily Carr is a pretty neat place to be. (At least, it was when I was in school there). Granville Island has so much character and so many little corners to discover.

Congratulation Keri!
You love of art and your talent have served you well over the years. We had great Art teachers growing up, who were passionate about their craft and it has obviously rubber off on you.
I took my love of art in a different direction – Interior Design and have been in business for 17 years now.
Good luck in BC.
