Dear Keri,
It's been a while since I checked in.... What a wonderful surprise to see the movie! I found myself asking why society would label someone dancing on a street corner as a nut. I know I would probably think that if I were driving by...but when you're on the other side of the camera lens, and when you think about it...why not dance? You aren't hurting anyone, you aren't doing anything immoral, illegal, against anyone else. So why not?

After seeing the film, I was reminded of LeeAnn Womack's song and there verse "so if you get a chance to sit it out, or dance... I hope you dance."

Please pass on all of our kind thoughts and gratitudes to Jeff and his buddy for sharing their art with us. I eagerly look forward to 'beard'. Blessings to you Keri. You are a rare bird.

Wow! i am a huge fan of your book and thought i would check out your blog, your dance video was totally brilliant, it had me in stitches! i especially liked the bit where the guy was hopping on his hands and 1 leg with the other leg in the air, i currently have a broken ankle but have now been given the inspiration and been shown how to dance in the street! thank you!

Thank you so much for making and sharing this film. I've followed your blog silently for some time, bought your book (which I love!) and now must comment. This film and the motivation behind it have so inspired me. I was just thinking earlier today about why my own life, which seems so inspired lately--is it being in a new town that I didn't choose, being a mom and all that comes with it, or something else? Now, I will think: "I am always searching for an experience that is full of life and beautiful...I'm here; I don't know how long I'm here for."

that was so enjoyable to watch, thank you for sharing that in a format that we can all enjoy. after reading so much about it on your blog, I really wanted to see how this film turned out. I loved it - made me want to get up and dance - also made me realize that all of this stress I'm feeling at work could probably be alleviated with a little more dancing in my daily life.

My husband and I truly enjoyed watching this together. He's Canadian...so there was a connection to the location as well. I do think we should all let go of our inhabitions and dance more both as children and adults. It is interesting and sad that our culture as a whole does not find this socially acceptable. I think everyone needs and wants to dance on a street corner but doesn't realize it. Perhaps this short film is the sweet message that will reach them. Dance on!

Thanks for the video! In my city, low-man-on-the-totem-pole kids who worked at a certain pizza place were required to stand on a street corner and hold the loose end of a banner advertising for the restaurant. I believe they did this because they had the other end of the banner attached to a traffic light pole, which is illegal. The poor kids had to stand there, often for hours at a time, so they could detach the banner if the cops came. One kid took his iPod out there and danced as he held the banner. Sure, the restaurant eventually used him as an advertising point, but at least he's getting paid to dance however he wants!

I loved this!! I have watched it several times, and I find that I pick up something different each time. From a sociological aspect, I love how the whole idea is explored. Even my 9 yr old was intrigued. It also reminded me of my little 4 yr old son's "underpants dancing and running" that he did every day last winter. I am trying to put it together as a little movie... inspired by The Winter of The Dance. Would love to share it with you!
I am loving reading your book too, as I discovered your blog a few weeks ago, and am enjoying working my way through your book and blog!

I loved the music for the film.
The dancing reminded me of my two little nephews and how they play and dance without any thought of how they appear, the film makes me want to join them.

This is absolutely the last time I will post today(this is my third in the last 20 minutes), but I just read down the page and saw your comments about spending time in the woods with your sister. In light of my earlier post (see below)concerning your short and my time at the cottage and in Flesherton, I am now more choked up than ever and hungry for the forest. I am glad to have happened on this site and will definitely be back.

OMG! Is it your birthday? Many happy returns, Keri!

It's really early in the morning in the heat of a Toronto summer, but oh how your film has taken me back to the Flesherton and Lake Eugenia of my youth. I am so thrilled to have seen this film! The happiest days of my life from ages 2-29 were spent up north at my family cottage on the lake. My sister and I danced and ran in the snow--and in summer in the tall grass--together right up until we (sadly and horribly) sold the cottage a couple of years back.

I turned 32 on the 19th of this month and all I could think about was my childhood and teenage years in that little town, at the falls and out on the water. Strangely, I even have video of myself dancing to "Billie Jean" in some crazy eighties leotard get-up while my dad filmed from the deck. Dancing outdoors was always a favourite thing.

One of the last things I did concerning the cottage was to take the man who is now my husband to Flesherton and the lake. It was summer and scorching out. We walked to a little lagoon area I know and I convinced him to strip off in the woods with me and go for a swim. It was a beautiful day that I will never forget, and your film captured the sort of freedom that I felt swimming and floating with the one I love while the clouds (and some boaters, shocked and amused) passed by.

I haven't had the guts to come back for a visit so far; it's been too hard. But I will now.

In case Keri feels weird about plugging it: The music is by Jeff Pitcher (www.jeffpitcher.com) with the exception of an instrumental piano version of Radiohead midway through it.

I live in the beautiful Okanagan of BC, but this film made me homesick for the minus 20 windchill nights in London, Ontario. It reminded me of how "uninhibited" we were as university students: blowing bubbles from our apartment over the Futon Shop to entertain the cars below as they waited at the stop light...having drunken snowball fights with strangers at 3 AM...dancing to Michael Jackson because everyone secretly loves Billy Jean even if they can't admit it now. Very inspiring! Good Luck!

Man! that was so awesome! thank you for posting it Keri, I was sooo curious to see it all this time since I learned about the project. there is something incredibly joyous about the film and I think a part of that is knowing there are other souls out there that are feeling and thinking about the same things. it gives some assurence and inspiration to forge through and live by the heart instead of by the fear so prevalant in this society.

I really like the music in the film. It goes very well with the subject and reminds me of the night scenes in my favourite movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Is this the film or a film about the film? I love the dancing but all of the in between explaining stuff I find a tad annoying. To me that feels like you're underestimating your viewers. And statements like "what I'm doing is unique"...
