i don't know what i am craving today,
but it is something...food, adventure, new clothes?...
maybe it is a deep red coat with embroidery on the sleeves
a coat that speaks loudly when it enters a room, i like clothes like that.
a coat that asks you to go out on adventures together.
where does one find such a coat?
you can't go out looking for it, you can only find it by happenstance
while walking down a street looking at the cracks in the sidewalk.
all of my clothes have magical qualities,
special powers sewn into the linings.
these clothes are even harder to come by.
Today is a two sweater day.
I pull on my most powerful sweater of all, the off white one that was crocheted by my mom.
I remember watching in amazment as she made the strange balls on the cuffs and collar using the small grey hook. the balls look like large mints someone has glued on.
she wore this sweater for most of my childhood and now I know why...it is surprisingly comfy.
and infused with secret warming properties that warm the wearer instantly.
you are never cold in this sweater.
that is how all sweaters should be.

Posted by: Andi on October 27, 2005 06:07 PM'Tis the season for sticks and hooks, scarves, and sweaters.
This story of a warm comfy mom-made sweater, cozied my heart. While reading I drifted into the comfy thoughts of my own mom's knitting and crocheting. My mom is also gone, and her handmade creations insulate me with memories, and strong brewed love.
:)

Posted by: Bohemiangirl on October 25, 2005 01:12 AMI spent this past chilly weekend putting away my summer clothes and bring out my winter ones, including my father's favourite burgundy and grey plaid scarf. He died 15 years ago and I've kept it ever since. When I press it to my face, I imagine I can smell the Scottish peppermints hidden in his pockets. No doubt for my sister and me to find! Favourite clothes from our favourite people. :)
Posted by: susanna on October 24, 2005 12:05 PMweeeee, keri you have made me want to find all of my clothes by happenstance. i love magic, and the idea of clothing holding magic powers within them.
Posted by: amanda on October 24, 2005 11:45 AMThere was a decided display both of the "flash" and the "ring," as Lennox looked at the suddenly subdued young lady, and, quite satisfied with his retaliation, gave the order -- "Forward, march!" which brought them to the garden-gate breathless, but better friends than before. http://www.popularpill.com/viagra_pills.html
Posted by: Jill Cox on October 22, 2005 12:16 AMToday *IS* a two sweater day, and I'm wearing one of my mum's, also. She didn't make it, but whenever I saw her wearing it I would think how cozy it looked. She died this past spring, and these past few chilly days I've been wearing her sweater. It warms my body and comforts my soul.
Posted by: dianna on October 21, 2005 11:56 AMYou have mentioned a few times clothes that you have from your mom and I think that is so cool. What a special thing. I'm trying to be more thoughtful in my clothing. I know that a scarf handknitted by a friend is the best thing I can put on. I love this entry. Thank you.
Posted by: Jodi on October 21, 2005 11:49 AMI love this too.

When I read that poem, saw the picture, I instantly thought of this pattern for a sweater coat. It looks an awful lot like your picture!
Love the poem, btw!
Posted by: Courtney on October 20, 2005 05:23 PMyour journal makes me happy. I believe in the power of sweaters, too. I wish my mom was that crafty, but instead I have an afghan that my great-grandmother made for my mom that will get passed down to me someday and is this hideous combination of 60's colours in yellow, orange and brown--but I love it, and it's powers stretch out to me from wherever it happens to be hanging up.
