A video artist called Gilllian Wearing did that 10 years ago did you know about that work.

YES!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad to know that there aren't just closed-minded jerks in the world these days. I stumbled upon your site on accident and I love it!
I'm sick and tired of people not appreciating life. I'm so fed up with people who get embarrassed. Who cares if people think you're crazy? They're the ones who can't see past appearences and into the vast beauty of the world. Because of this, a bunch of my friends and I have started a similar 'movement;' we growl at people who get in the way of happiness. We wear capes and go jaust-sledding and run around public parks and play music and laugh and sing. Now I'll be sure to add 'dancing on the streets' to our repetoire, too!

That is just so cool!

Freeeeeeedom!!!!!!!

The only reason the cops should have been called is if you were dancing to William Hung's version of "She Bangs". :)

This is so exciting! I want to see the film now!! When you guys release it on dvd please put all kinds of extras on it. Interviews, commentary track, behind the scenes stuff, etc. You've got so many people who appreciate what you do and it's nice to know you'll have many more fans/friends after this. You're positive and creative - - it's good refreshing energy to share with the world. I've been following your story for a while now so it's nice to see good things happen to good people like yourselves.

Keep doing what you're doing (living creatively) and remember to hold on to the positive comments because they far outweigh the negatives, even though they tend to be a lot less loud.

Keep exploring your creativity. You've been and continue to be an inspiration for me and many others.

p.s. To all the people who might read this, especially the ones who visit quite often: Let's remember these people are also incredibly talented authors and musicians and web sites can be quite costly.. So show your support by buying a book or cd. Help them out if you like what they're about. :)

You remind me of some wierdos that were dancing in my town once. But the cops and real estate ran them out of town. And rightfully so! Don't you guys have any respect? We work hard for our safe secure lifestyles, we drink beer and watch tv at night and occasionally go to a fish fry to spice things up. The very last thing we want is ANYONE who is going to make us think... about anything, or make us change our routine! Keep your subversive dancing and daisies to yourselves!!!

I think that's completely fantastic, the moving past boundaries to embrace something bigger (the free movement of one's body without boundaries) in public. We're taught to be so conscious of our bodies and what is and isn't appropriate expression and it's great to see what happens when it's taken out of its normal context in this way. Bravo!

I have been thinking of you so much this week, envisioning your wild dances and the wild stares - it is so inspiring!

Posted by: Swirly on September 25, 2005 02:23 PM

I think this is great! I'd be out there joining you in a minute if I could! I walk around singing all the time and people don't seem to mind that so much. Except my family and close friends. They do tell me to shut-up every now and then!

Posted by: Michelle on September 25, 2005 10:05 AM

You guys make me want to dance even more! The 2 year old kid you previously mentioned made me go "Aww..."

You're getting the attention and making people dance too....congratulations! :)

I'd love to see that film sometime...only I'm in far faraway Manila.

Love your work! It's hard to believe that the simple act of dancing could be so thought provoking and cause such a public reation - it's just great! And how funny is your story about the cop, so obviously uncomfortable (for some reason) with what you were doing, but unable to do anything about it?!

I would very much like to see your film. We have a few festivals here in Australia - don't suppose you would consider taking your work to the international stage? I am sure that it would get a great reaction over here.

Keep on dancing - Sharon from Brisbane, Australia

I think this is just the COOLEST thing!

Posted by: Ali on September 24, 2005 07:01 PM

I want to be there! Reading all about your dancing has been a huge grin on my face! I would love to see it - and people's reactions. I would love to think I would be brave enough to join in too...

Keep spreading the joy!!

Fantastic! Just wondered if your husband knows about the Spiritual Cinema Circle. (http://www.thespiritualcinemacircle.com/) Sounds like 'The Winter of the Dance' would be just the kind of movie they'd love to distribute.

just wondering... isn't mind-boggling to think that some people can be dancing on a street corner without a care in the world, while others are stuck in traffic or displaced from their homes with nowhere to go? I often wonder how God keeps it all straight. Rejoicing with those who are celebrating life and all its endless possibilities...and grieving with those who have lost everything and offering them hope. We all have different circumstances and no matter if they are good or bad, we have the choice of how to repond to them. Enjoy your dancing time- being carefree is one of the best feelings in this world. Eat it up!! :)

Holymoly, that's INCREDIBLE. I can't tell you how thrilled I am for you all that this is going so well! And I don't even KNOW you!

Outside of blogs, I don't know any of you, but I keep reading and feeling so excited for you guys. Congratulations and enjoy it all!

I would like to take a moment to express my views on this.

Firstly, I am not completely comfortable with dancing in public. THAT IS the point. The guys started doing it in November and I did not get it at first, I thought it was a beautiful gesture but there was no WAY I would do it (especially in my small town). They kept asking and I kept saying no. I watched the film, felt moved by it, but still said no. I also questioned them about the fact that they were doing it in public, something about that bothered me, I too felt it was exhibitionist. To be quite honest I felt a little annoyed at times about it, I can't quite explain why. Maybe for the same reasons that one commenter mentioned, I was worried about the 'look at me' vibe. But I must explain that the fact that it is done in public is precisely the point, it forces us to let go of what people think of us, to push us past the point of caring, of feeling self concious, about embracing our 'foolishness'. It was not easy to do, the 'vibe' is more 'I am uncomfortable but I am doing it anyway' it is still difficult. I move in and out of the caring. It is only when I enter into the music fully, that I start to let go.

What i will say is that it is helping me be much less self conscious. I find myself moving differently, singing more in public, and feeling a bit more confident physically, all since this process started.

p.s. to answer Katherine's question, I do interact with people when they approach me, to explain what i am doing. Mike and Jeff do not, they have a "no interaction" policy not liking to be pulled out of the moment.

Posted by: lucia on September 23, 2005 04:19 PM

That's so awesome! Strange, isn't it, how things just fall into place sometimes? I bet Jeff didn't expect this to happen when he was trying to outlive the winter cold :) Great stuff!

Wonderful news. I'm really enjoying this story, the 'in the moment' of the whole thing, the excitement, the not knowing what will happen next.

The story about spontaneous dance has itself become a spontaneous dance.

Posted by: patricia on September 23, 2005 02:47 PM

wow, keri, that's so cool! i love to hear that you're all shaking people up and inspiring them with your freedom and spontaneity! dance on!
