"To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work." ~May Oliver
Hi...this is my first stop at your blog and I read your recent comments about "life is suffering". Thought you might want to read my personal story of suffering- just click on my name and it will link you to an indepth article of my families experiences the past 4 years. (Including an apperance on the Oprah show.) I wrote in a journal one time that I would one day write my own book...about living with tragedy and trauma. Instead of writing about greif and depression I thought I would pick a different topic. One I have needed more than anything through my pain and that is joy. Joy in the midst of suffering. I can honestly say that as I've seeked to move beyond my pain to find that joy- it has popped up in the most unusual places. And even in the midst of trying experiences my eyes have been able to see joy. I look forward to reading more of your blog...and your books. And maybe get inspired to start writing one of my own in the process! Thanks for reading...
Posted by: Jody on September 13, 2005 12:24 PMI have found that as soon as we decide to pay attention to certain details, they appear so often as to sometimes be overwhelming. It is always a wonderful lesson to realize that what you want and need are often right in front of you all along.
Posted by: Swirly on September 13, 2005 11:09 AMLike Christina, I'm looking forward to reading more about your discoveries in and around Davis. Hope you're enjoying your first few weeks in a new place!
Posted by: Jillian on September 12, 2005 11:41 AMMary Oliver is also one of my favorite poets...and I was just contemplating how I might go about doing a collage to reflect the words in a poem... What you've done is so delicate. So present. I'm hoping that now all the turmoil has died down in the comment section of your blog, that you'll post something again soon about your days. You are so astute with your observations. And I'm looking forward to hearing what the transition has been like. Thank you for continuing to share your words, your inspiration and your courage with us all.

Posted by: Bimacs on September 10, 2005 03:22 PMYour experiment of a couple weeks ago of collaging only on pieces you found on your floor stayed with me... and germinated last night :)

Oh Naomi Shihab Nye is an amazing poet. The last poem I read of hers that really stuck with me is one about these poor mine mules that never see the light of day. It was absolutely heartbreaking.
Posted by: Keri Smith is Awesome! on September 9, 2005 11:48 PMMary Oliver is my all time favorite poet (followed by Naomi Shihab Nye). I just love her. She always hits me smack dab in the heart.
