"I don't think I am ever bored. I have some restless searcher in me. Why is there not a discovery in life? Something one can lay hands on and say 'This is it'? What is it? And shall I die before I can find it? Then I see mountains in the sky: the great clouds, and the moon which is risen over Persia; I have a great and astonishing sense of something there, which is 'it' -A sense of my own strangeness, walking on the earth is there too. Who am I, what am I, and so on; these questions are always floating about in me." ~Virginia Woolf from her 1926 diary
Posted by kerismith at July 01, 2005 12:30 PMI am reading those diaries right now, ever so carefully turning those first edition pages my bibliophile husband has been so kind to include in his dowry...I find her comforting in her realness, reading her much like I find comfort in reading so many blogs out there. If only her thoughts had been "live" !! Imagine the relief of these women...
Thank you for sharing your real and relief.
Posted by: jenn on July 5, 2005 10:23 AMGood stuff from the woman who walked into water with stones in her pocket...
Posted by: fin on July 4, 2005 12:48 PMGreat quote and I so agree. How can anyone ever be bored? Maybe they're just not "strange" enough.
Posted by: patry on July 3, 2005 10:39 PM"questions always floating about in me"...is the very intimate experience of life...your own inner wonder...beautifully spoken Virginia & thank you for reminding me with her quote Kari. I guess timing is everything & what a delight to stumble upon this quote at this time. Thanks for sharing!
Posted by: sonya on July 3, 2005 02:00 PMI enjoy reading your reflections, how you literally paint your surroundings with words. I also really like seeing your visual creations when you have a chance to share a few :)
Posted by: Stephanie on July 3, 2005 09:19 AMWhoops, I meant Virginia.
If you spell one of histories greatest writers name wrong, do you get some sort of weird karmic punishment?
I hope not.
Magical Virgina.
I drink a cup of her whenever I need a little pick me up.
Fantastic. I love it.
