doodling

Sidney bears a remarkable resmeblance to Woody Allen but in actual fact his personality could not be more different. Hector has a hangover after spending too much time at the local bar playing pool. Paulo spends his sundays pruning his grape vines and drinking espresso while listening to the short wave radio.

I thoroughly enjoy these drawings. It's gotten me started playing the same game in my sketchbook. Thanks.

It reminds me too of the scene in "Wonder Boys" by Michael Chabon where a writer and his editor make a game of guessing, not just the name of strangers, but their identity--what they do, who they love, what hurts them, their history--making up their lives. Of course they couldn't be more wrong. But oddly, what they say about them seems to suit the strangers, seems more right than their real lives. It makes you realize the power of invention.

Ha! Kyra looks like me a few years back (when I had hair!)

this reminds me of the "name game". When my boyfriend and I are bored we guess the names of people walking by and we negotiate who's name is more appropriate.
"He's a terry!"
"No a Jim!"
"Wow you are so right!"

Often I want to go up to ppl and ask what there real names are but it would probably only end up being a dissapiontment.

Your characters are so much fun. My daughters name is Kyra ... and the sketch of 'your' Kyra is strangely similar to my Kyra. Love it!

definitely see the "Harriet the Spy" reference, and the woody allen-esque character is eerily similar visually. either way i love the whimsical nature to your sketches.

I love all your different people, they all have their own character. Wish that I could draw people. Guess I should practise more!

It's a real pleasure to see the faces evolve here!

They remind me of the sketches in my all-time favorite children's book, "Harriet the Spy." (And the two sequels, "Sport," and "The Long Secret.") And I hope the fact that they remind me of someone else's work doesn't bug you--I have wonderful memories of reading those books, and how those sketches gave face to the voices of the characters ...
