my apoogies

On the phone with a girlfriend during a lightening storm we share stories and reveal wounds. This planet must rotate with the expended breath of girlfriends talking on the phone. Endless stories that turn night into day, the stars shifting, planets passing by. The muted sound of peeing, of course conversation does not slow even for the sake of urination. Am I giving away our secrets?

Girlfriend love is a beatiful thing.

Also of note, I have mastered the art of peeing in a jar while the renovations on the bathroom continue. A handy skill you must admit.

I am having trouble with the "L" key on my computer, I have to press it rather hard to make it work. If any L's are omitted in this or any other future correspondence please accept my apologies. (that could have been apoogies, which I kind of like better.) What would a world with no "L's" sound like? Word i suppose. (I am aware that sometimes my sense of humour is funny only to me, because I laughed rather loudly after I typed 'word'.)

A quick question for you, Mike is trying to convince me that "Goonies" is an exceptional film (which I have not seen). Does anyone attest to this theory? Just putting it out there.

a thought from Rilke for you to decipher (and attribute your own meaning to),

"Oh not because happiness exists,
that too-hasty profit snatched from approaching loss.
But because truly being here is so much;
because everything here apparently needs us,
this fleeting world, which in some strange way keeps calling to us.
Us, the most fleeting of all.
...Ah, but what can we take along into that other realm?
Not the art of looking which is learned so slowly, and nothing that happened here. Nothing.
The suffering, then. And, above all, the heaviness, and the experience of love,
-just what is wholly unsayable.

That's TOO funny! My little sister is 16 years younger than I, making her 13 years old, and I am ALWAYS telling her she MUST see the Goonies! It's a must see! :) great to "meet" others who love it as much as I do.

ChuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunK !!

Goonies is definitely worth watching. It was on at a local cinema a few months ago so I went along on my own and had a ball.

I love the Goonies...adventure, heart, drama, laughter. Of course it's a movie a grew up with so it has that special place in my heart.

Keri, you are scrumptiously, divinely, fabulously inspiring and I just adore you.
Good luck with your dreams and if you have a fairy godmother make she make all your wishes come true.

Take Care Sweety,

P.S Goonies is hilarious if you are twelve.

I LOVE the Goonies. I especially love the Cyndi Lauper song from it called 'Good Enough'.

The "Goonies"? Hmm, gotta watch that one some day. I have no idea about what it is I have to confess.

I like your quote on Rilke, good old Rainer Maria. He hit the nail on the head there.

I just watched Goonies two weeks ago. A classic film. J

Goonies takes you back to the adventure of childhood, I like it, always have. Just wanted to you know Keri I'm taking some of Miss Bea's suggestions for the French cafe at home here in the US. hahahha I just bought an Edith Piaf CD and am really liking it. Thanks to the very cool Miss Bea. I ordered Living Out Loud and can't wait til it gets here. I've been more creative and dare I say bravely so lately. I really like what I'm seeing on this site and The Bea's Diary site it's all fabulous. Thank you Thank you for giving me hope for a future doing what I love and sure why not make money at. I am inspired more and more everyday! Keep up the phenomenal work. I recommend this site to all my friends who are also artists. God Bless Keri Smith!

Hey Keri!

What a lovely concept: the world must rotate on the expended breath of girlfriends talking...

As for Rilke's quote, I must say that I disagree. What we do, what we know, in this life becomes a part of us; we are constantly transformed. So when we leave this place, we leave a much different creature - a product of everything. So we take it all with us then, no?

Thanks for your excellent blog!

Posted by: Amanda on January 14, 2005 01:45 PM

Goonies and then the Sandlot! Both are great! It doesn't matter how old you are just as long as you're a kid at heart! They both make us laugh and laugh!

You definately have to give Goonies a chance. Corey Feldman is so adorable as Clark "Mouth" Devereaux. I haven't seen that movie in eons. I believe I saw it in 1985 when it was first released. Seeing it mentioned in your blog makes me want to rent it for my 9 year old daughter to enjoy. I am sure she would.
BTW, thanks always for the wonderful thoughts you share in your journal. I look forward to reading it whenever I possibly can.
I am glad I am not the only one who doesn't let urination get in the way of a good conversation. I think I've perfected the art of quietly peeing as to not give myself away in the loo. :)
Girlfriend love is a beautiful thing.

"Goonies never say die!!!"

Definitely one of the best movies of all time. Worth a look.

Posted by: Kimerly on January 13, 2005 09:40 PM

Oh yeah, Goonies is the best.

Posted by: kira on January 13, 2005 07:25 PM

I think that people rave about the Goonies only if they saw it as a child.

My partner did, and he still rates the Goonies in his Top Ten Movies List of All Time.

He kept saying to me "you have to watch the goonies! you have to watch the goonies!"

So I did, at the tender age of 21.

And whilst it was nice enough, it certainly didn't make its way onto the Top Ten list for me.

I think you have to see it first as a child to be completely enthralled in the adventure and whimsical nature.

:D

love and laughter,
Leonie

Hi! Keri, I found your blog recently and have been meaning to comment... When I saw the words bathroom and renovation, well, I laughed out loud.

Having survived a 5-day bathroom reno at about this time last January, I must say that the human bladder's expandability boggles my mind. I must also say that one should never go to an Esso station to use the washroom at midnight - Uncle Tim keeps a much cleaner salle de bain!

As for The Goonies, it's a great movie. I haven't seen it in years, but I think I might be renting it soon and sharing the Goonie experience with my niece and nephews. It's the ultimate sleepover movie. Invite friends to watch it with you.

I forgot all about Goonies! I've got to see that again.

Posted by: Laura on January 13, 2005 05:44 PM

Keri,

There is a great Carol Shields short story called "Absence" in her book Dressing Up for the Carnival about a stuck key on her word processor. The entire story is written without this particular letter and it's fun to figure out which letter it is!

Posted by: sharon on January 13, 2005 03:24 PM

Please do watch the goonies. Also, when I was in grade school, a bunch of my girlfriends and I discovered it was much more exciting to watch this film in the room with the squeaky door that lead to the attic, while dancing around in our underwear. Just an idea.

I second the recommendation of Ella Minnow Pea. A gorgeous book, indeed!

Posted by: kasually on January 13, 2005 12:46 PM

You have to watch Goonies immediately. It's a classic!

Posted by: kristin on January 13, 2005 11:51 AM

One word, well two really,
TRUFFLE SHUFFLE...Goonies is awesome!!

Posted by: erin on January 13, 2005 11:50 AM

I love Goonies. However, I might add, the reason I love Goonies so much is that I watched it growing up. So when I watch it, I both enjoy the movie and it brings back lots of memories. Like when my friends and I got up real early (5 am) when we were 7 to watch the movie. Then one friend started moaning, saying "cherrios, cherrios, I want cherrios." At which point their parents woke up and got mad at us for getting up so early and watching a movie. Ahhh, good times.
Now I wonder, do I like the movie because it is actually a good movie or do I like it because I have such funny memories attached to it? hmmm, a good point to ponder.
Keri - I do hope you enjoy it, if you do decide to watch it.

For a good read that gives a glimpse into a world without certain letters try "Ella Minnow Pea" by Mark Dunn.... As letters fall off the memorial statue in Nollop they are banned from use.

Goonies = Underdog Love

A quote:
"It's our world, down here. Up there, it's their world. Down here, it's *our* world." Sadly, "down here" is the sewer system, sort of.

Man I love that movie! Whoo! Gimme some hot Josh-Brolin-in-sweats-on-a-tiny-pink-bike action!

Hope your plumbing get fixed soon!

Goonies. A classic. That reminds me. I gotta go rent it!!

I think I've seen it several times. Kids. Can't grow up!

Goonies is a great movie! My daughter loves to watch it with us. In fact I think I may rent it again. Hope you enjoy it as well!

The Goonies is great! :)
I was soooo in love with Josh Brolin back then!

Posted by: betty on January 13, 2005 03:44 AM

hi keri,
you should very definitely see "The Goonies". it is a great film. Go and rent it!

Posted by: laura on January 13, 2005 03:34 AM

Okay, I don't want to overhype Goonies, because I know when films get hyped too much they can be a letdown even if they're great. But you've got to get at least a teency bit excited about a rolicking adventure featuring a bunch of misfit kids who are trying to save the day. Trust me: it's an hour and a half of your life very well spent.

(Bonus/Admitted Bias: Parts of the movie were filmed on the coast of my lovely state, Oregon. Some parts in a fishing/artists town called Astoria, and other parts in a town called Cannon Beach where I spent many a happy summer.)

The Goonies is one of my all time favourite films. I used to be able to recite it line for line... now I am not sure whether I love it for nostalgia's sake or because of the actual quality of the film...

Posted by: claire on January 13, 2005 01:45 AM

First of all, let me say that I lost my closest girlfriend ever before Billy & I met. For no logical reason (at least one I haven't figured out), we stopped talking and lost touch. Even with my husband in my life, there's still an emptiness in my heart for her. I always hope there's another Su out there for me.

In the last 5 years, though, my two younger sisters and I have become closer. As kids, we loved Goonies. See it. I'm sure you'll love it.

I laughed at the word thing too. I think something about laughing at your own jokes & appreciating yourself is a good thing. I like to think it was part of what Rilke was getting at when he talked about cherishing one's solitude.

Lastly, congrats on the jar thing. I am still not so good peeing in the middle of the woods while camping; I find the mastery of the jar quite impressive. :)

Posted by: Annie I on January 13, 2005 01:14 AM

ummm...keri, can you please whatch goonies right now!

it is such a riot you will have to pee in a jar during the film.

and then go and buy the sound track for the cyndi lauper theme song along........sooooo good.!

cheers

My husband has always loved Goonies and exposed our 8 year old daughter to it...she loved it. I remember loving it when I first saw it. When I watched it again recently I still loved it...not sure if its just the nostalgia though. It's an excellent movie to watch when you are tired of being a grown up! Pirates, treasure, puppy love!

Posted by: moki on January 12, 2005 09:32 PM

I think Goonies is a cult classic. Yes, it's good. Kind of in the realm of Stand By Me. A must-see at least once in your life.
