I wake to the snow falling this morning. I lie in bed watching it fall out of the trees. I love that feeling of being snuggled into bed warm and cosy, knowing that on the other side of that window lives wind and ice and breath you can see. And I will go out in it but not now. Now is the time for stretching, and purring and drifting back to sleep for ten more minutes. The wind cannot get me in my magic sleep pod. ha!

Today is a day for bundling up to go out to the post office. For putting a fire on and fetching wood. For making a pot of soup and baking bread. Today is a day for snowmen and snow angels. The men driving the plows meeting at the cafe for coffee. Today is the day for getting out my real winter boots and my snowpants. Doing chores, cleaning the house, making the bed. Sipping hot tea.

Tomorrow my husband comes home, and I am very excited.

I found a great quote yesterday,

"Life moves on, whether we act as cowards or heroes. Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him(/her) who has the vision to recognize it as such." -Henry Miller

Keri dearheart,

I just love to read your blog. Here in Australia we are preparing for a long hot summer, so it is delightful to read of wood fires and soup and snow.

How absolutely endearing.

I love your work, and I love also the love story of you and your husband.

Many blessings for the festive season!

Love and laughter,
Leonie

I liked your quote, Keri -- particularly the bit about not being able to run away from life's difficulties. Standing our ground is what ultimately allows us to grow stronger, even if we're sorely tempted to exit stage left!

SNOOOOOOOOOW!

We've had non-stop rain for WEEKS. You know, up here in wintry Canada.

I love the quote. Thanks for sharing it.

yesterday my copy of "change the world for a fiver" arrived in the mail, confirming once again my (sometimes mixed) feelings about the world being such a grand/small place at the same time. but i read about "we are what we do" here first, and i need to thank you for it! thanks keri, again!

Thankful that you (and Mike!) are safe today in the snow, ice and cold!

Keri--you can't imagine how much your website has helped me get through these past few days. Thank you for putting your thoughts, stories, your everything out there--it's a reassuring presence during those "I forgot myself" days.

Henry Miller is great. And being from Atlanta, GA....well, it'll be quite a while before I can enjoy any snowfall. Mostly it's a slight flurry, with no accumulation. Oh well. I still find much joy in that, even.

Keri - I love your appreciation for the small things in life. That is one of my favorite things - being all snug up in bed in the morning when it is snowing.

Wow, I just had a telephone call from a friend that will benefit greatly of that quote. Can I put it in my blog for her?

You post the best quotes Keri. I save them all into a text file, then when I have a few, I print them out, colour them and stick them on my wall.

I don't know how you find them! How do you? =)

Hi Keri,

I love your little snow guy. He seems so friendly and makes this first snow feel magical. Cozy pods are indeed lovely!

Thanks for sharing him and Henry... :)

BOY, I needed that. I started a new job today -- a move imposed by my boss -- and I hate the idea of it so much, I'm currently in bed with stomach cramps and nausea. I think I'm going to print out that quote and tape it to my forehead as I try again tomorrow.

Thanks.

Lucky you for getting snow! We got a little dusting the other day but it's since all melted.

Also, I love the quote. So true and really makes you think.

Keri, that quote is great. My (ex)boyfriend and I just ended about a month ago a 11 year relationship and I find the quote inspiring. We are still friends but that doesn't make it any easier. Even though I don't know you I love reading your blog. You are very inspiring and wise. Thanks for sharing, H

Oh Keri, thank you so much for that quote. Trying to make an important life decision here and that sums it all up. I'm so scared and at the same time feeling inspired and excited?!? How weird is that? Again, thanks :)
