"Artists, poets--whatever you want to call those people whose job is "making"--take in the commonplace and are forever recognizing it as worthwhile.
I think I am always collecting in a way--walking down a street with my eyes open, looking through a magazine, viewing a movie, visiting a museum or grocery store. Some of the things I collect are tangible and mount into piles of many layers, and when the time comes to use these saved images, I dig like an archeologist and sometimes find what I want and sometimes don't." -Corita Kent

Posted by: Astrid on October 21, 2004 07:54 AMi just feel its so scary that someone can have such similar thoughts to your own and be able to say them so much more clearly. really inspiring.
Posted by: sara on October 18, 2004 09:20 PMAmazing how we as artists can see things in such different light! Totally precious post! THank you. (I love your watering can)
Posted by: Mabelle on October 14, 2004 11:43 AMI have ideas coming at me from all directions these days. I find that I get my best ideas when I'm least able to write them down -- like when I'm driving down the 401! :-) That's when I have to resort to writing them down on scraps of paper while I keep my eyes on the road. No wonder my steering wheel has ink smudges on it....
Posted by: Ann on October 12, 2004 11:23 PMI have been taking pictures of Toronto store fronts all afternoon. A request from my publisher. That was taking in the commonplace for sure, I have seen so much I never noticed before!
