"All humans are storytellers with their own unique point of view. When we understand this, we no longer feel the need to impose our story on others or to defend what we believe. Instead, we see all of us as artists with the right to create our own art." -Don Miguel Ruiz

Posted by: Simon on July 30, 2004 09:31 AMHi Keri -
I think the images you've chosen for this time of year are wonderful. I've been enjoying outdoor campfires with my kids and all kinds of fresh peas and other delicious veggies. Yum! Summer doesn't last nearly long enough, so we've got to make the most of the season.
And as for the quote that you've chosen, it's also extremely wise. I think we can learn a lot by listening to the wisdom that comes from other people, even if their experience has been totally different from our own. I find that the older I get, the less I need to be "right" and the more I simply endeavor to hear and to understand.
Keep up the great work. I've listed you on my blog in the "Artists whose work I love" category.
Posted by: Ann on July 29, 2004 11:27 AMA friend of mine introduced me to your blog. Its wonderful! Love your sketches...love the color in them..what do you use to color them? Great quote. It is true.
Posted by: just_pat on July 29, 2004 09:59 AMi just came home from watching farenheit 911 here in sydney and was a bit angry, cross, sad, suprised etc at everything that has been going on.
But I was thinking to myself the world will always be full of craziness, stupidness, meaness, and people will always be in conflict with other people and the world will never be error free, the world will always be full of error. Then I read your entry and it was so timely.
I love the ideas behind the quote... but I fear the results of their application in a world where some people's 'beliefs' and 'stories' call for the destruction of other people's 'beliefs' and 'stories'.
It would be so wonderful if we could all play by the same rules (or relative lack, thereof) as our children. But that only works if everyone agrees to 'no hitting'... 'share your things'... and 'don't forget to say please & thank you'.
Posted by: David on July 29, 2004 03:31 AMI spend my days with six and seven year olds and I feel blessed to observe how they naturally validate creation and don't assume that reasoning should always be logical: "Cool, I like your paper hat. Can you make one for me?" "My cat is orange and red. My dad says that cats can't be red, but he is. He is a red cat as red as an apple. I told my dad that he can say my cat isn't red. But he is."
How wonderful to see someone as an artist and ask her to create in your name what she does so well.
How wonderful to know that your cat is red even when cats are never red. How wonderful to have your own story.
That was something I really needed to read. Thanks for sharing.
