I really needed to read Rilke today. It is amazing how much wisdom comes out of this tiny volume, you can turn to almost any page.
"Being an artist means: not numbering and counting, but ripening like a tree, which doesn't force its sap, and stands confidently in the storms of spring, not afraid that afterward summer may not come. It does come. But it comes only to those who are patient, who are there as if eternity lay before them, so unconcernedly silent and vast. I learn it every day of my life, learn it with pain I am grateful for: patience is everything!"

Posted by: Pioneer Melissa on January 15, 2004 08:48 AMi just had email about you about "clarity" - and the answer that i needed to hear was right here.
how did you know?
patience. i need to always remind myself about that. no need to rush everything to finish first. it's not our time but the universe's time. we need patience to be and in sync their time for all of us to blossom. not all at once though. but when it is our turn to. that takes patience.
Posted by: lucia on January 15, 2004 05:05 AMThank you so much - I needed that quote today! I've dubbed 2004 "The Year of Adventure" and this will certainly be going in my Grail Journal to tide me through the rough patches. ;)
ps ~ love your site!
Posted by: french toast girl on January 14, 2004 08:02 PMKeri Smith! You made my whole month! The month of January is dedicated to you! (by me!) and to the amazing gift you sent me! Words cannot even BEGIN to describe how much I appreciated that and how special it is to me! Thank-you so, so much! I'm gonna go play now!
Posted by: Dave on January 14, 2004 07:51 PMI am not a patient person by nature. You know when you're driving through the city and you can do it so you hit all the green lights? Yeah, that's not me. I'm usually the one stopped at the light, then holding everyone else up.
Thanks for the reminder, miss.

Posted by: penelope on January 14, 2004 02:09 PMMmm..."I am starting to learn that too" was a reference to Connie's comment. (sorry for confusion)
Posted by: LL on January 13, 2004 09:54 PMI am starting to learn that too. Thank you for posting this today, just when it was needed.
Posted by: LL on January 13, 2004 09:51 PMahhhhhh, Rilke . . . "for the god within you is waiting to be born . . " he is always so inspiring . . . thank you for reminding me . . .
Posted by: Katherine on January 13, 2004 09:42 PMI totally agree. I had seen many Rilke quotes and didn't realize one small book could have so many meaningful pieces to pull from. I read Rilke at a low, dry time in my life and I came back because of him. Thank you for reminding me of the amazing treasure of this author.
Posted by: Stef on January 13, 2004 06:46 PMThank you so much for posting this quote today! I really needed to see it. I am starting to learn everytime I am to the point of hopelessness or giving up, the universe puts something in my path that gives me that little glimmer of hope to keep moving forward. Thanks again.
