Tonight while browsing through my journals from the last year I stumbled across this quote:
"Always in the big woods when you leave familiar ground and step off alone into a new place there will be, along with feelings of curiosity and excitement, a little nagging of dread. It is the ancient fear of the Unknown, and it is your first bond with the wilderness you are going into." -Wendell Barry, naturalist
A night of quiet. As my grandmother would say, the Newfoundland recipe to cure all that ails you is 'tea, toast and a bath'. To that I add a good book.
Posted by kerismith at December 11, 2003 09:32 PMHey Tea, Toast, Toddy (a hot one), Bath and a Book (a good one)...
Sounds like heaven...I think I'll give it a whirl tonight : )
and bubbles and candles,
warm blankets and pillows..though not all at the same time.
I sometimes feel that dread. It encourages me to know that you and others have felt it and survived (and succeeded!).
Keri: you are an inspiration.

Posted by: penelope on December 12, 2003 03:56 PMOh Keri, I have been so inspired by your website as of late. There is always that something that I just couldn't put my finger on that makes me like you so and today as I read my favorite poet Wendell Berry quoted, some of has been made clear. Thank you so much for all your sweet entries. Inspired by your drawings of what you saw on your walks I took my camera along on a day out the other day. I saw a red headed girl driving a Studebaker and on the rear window she had incribed, "Redheads are as unique as the cars they drive". It made me so happy, I took a picture:)
